Anderson Acoustics: Reimagining Wellness Through Sound
At Brighton Wellness Festival, we believe that wellbeing is deeply connected to the environments we create and the ways we experience the world around us. That’s why we’re proud to be sponsored by Anderson Acoustics, a consultancy at the forefront of designing better-sounding spaces and pioneering new approaches to sound and wellbeing.
Founded and led by Dr. Emma Ireland, Anderson Acoustics brings a rare combination of scientific expertise and human insight. With a background in electronics, music technology, and a PhD in acoustics, Emma has spent her career understanding how sound shapes our daily lives, in workplaces, schools, homes, events, and performances. But beyond technical design, she is also deeply committed to exploring how sound can support emotional health, balance, and connection.
From Consultancy to Sound Healing Innovation
Emma’s journey into sound healing began with her own search for wellbeing amidst a demanding career. A lifelong music lover, she found that traditional relaxation practices often didn’t work for her, her restless, solution-focused mind resisted the call to “empty” itself. Instead, music became her pathway to insight, comfort, and healing.
Together with a close friend and sound therapist, Emma explored tactile sound, vibrations you don’t just hear, but feel through your body. What began as curiosity soon evolved into a five-year journey of research and development. This exploration led to the creation of a tactile sound bench: a unique piece of furniture that allows individuals to experience music and therapeutic sound not only through the ears, but also through vibration, resonance, and deep physical immersion.
Why Tactile Sound Matters
We often think of music as something we hear, but vibration is a powerful part of the experience. From the thrum of a drum to the pulse of a bassline, sound is felt as much as it is heard. Tactile sound technology takes this further, creating space for relaxation, therapy, and deep listening.
The tactile sound bench designed by Anderson Acoustics has already attracted the attention of world-renowned musicians, therapists, and innovators, including Evelyn Glennie, Max Cooper, and Clerkenwell Health, who recognise its potential not only for personal wellbeing but also for cutting-edge therapies like psychedelic-assisted treatment.
Early testers report benefits ranging from relaxation and emotional release to creative inspiration, improved focus, and deepened self-awareness. For many, it offers an accessible bridge into therapeutic practices they may never have otherwise considered.
